In the 2008 Autumn/Winter planting season, Climate Positive will be restoring bio-diverse forest to a cleared part of the 255 hectare Trust for Nature protected site "Bush Family Reserve" in the Perry River region of Victoria (west of Bairnsdale). The cleared western end of the property, 32 ha, has been targeted as a high priority for restoration works to restore the area to the ecological vegetation class benchmark standard.
This site was selected due to its suitability to support carbon-rich forests and its important contribution in linking the Bush Family Reserve to the Perry River corridor.
Climate Positive is restoring three Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVC) on the site and all have threatened status:
- Gippsland Plains Grassy Woodland - Endangered
- Damp Sands Herb-rich Woodland - Vulnerable
- Seasonally-innundated Shrubby Woodland - Endangered
There is nationally endangered wetland species present - Rulingia prostrata, Dwarf Kerrawang. Full flora and fauna lists for the site were recorded during a site inspection in January 2008.
