"Love The Beast" goes carbon neutral
Two Australian film production companies have taken a leadership position in the film industry by partnering with not-for-profit organisation Climate Positive to calculate and offset the carbon polluting activities associated with the making of the feature film "Love The Beast". Melbourne-based film group Whyte House Productions along with Eric Bana's Pick Up Truck Pictures have recently completed production on the feature film that also stars Eric Bana along with fellow auto aficionados Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno and Dr Phil.
Greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy use, transportation and hotel accommodation, were documented and assessed to enable the Producers to account for the majority of the productions emissions.
Climate Positive plantings left unscathed by Victoria's bushfires
Climate Positive's two biodiverse reforestation plantings have not been affected by bushfires in Victoria over the last few weeks.
The plantings are known as Balook, located in the Stzelecki Ranges, and the Bush Family Reserve, in East Gippsland.
The growth in clean technologies, especially renewable energy seems unstoppable. The question is will Australia benefit?
The Australian Government, and more recently the Governor General, continue to spruik the virtues of "clean coal" and carbon capture and storage (CCS), even as scientists unleash enormous renewable energy potential in the Cooper Basin through hot fractured rocks, and the successful development of solar power with storage capable of delivering scaleable base load power.
Both of these technologies have the potential to become major export earners for Australia through both the supply of zero carbon fuels and their underpinning technologies.
PM's 5-15 per cent cuts a death warrant for Great Barrier Reef
Climate Positive urges the Australian Government to rethink it's decision to limit carbon pollution cuts to between 5 and 15 percent.
"Far from being in the national interest, this target condemns Australia to ecological and economic losses that will dwarf the costs of retrofitting the Australian economy to a low carbon future. It is a sad day for our major ecosystems, agricultural sector, security, coastlines and economy," Climate Positive Chairman, Mr Brendan Condon said. "The Australian Government's idea of what is acceptable climate change puts us in a very dangerous position in terms of future global warming. It is a death warrant to the Great Barrier Reef, Kakadu and the Murray Darling Basin," he said.
Climate Positive appoints ex-Committee for Melbourne executive as its new General Manager
Danielle Johnston has recently been appointed as General Manager for Climate Positive. Danielle was formerly in the role of steering the Committee for Melbourne's Climate Change Taskforce, which involved more than 80 Melbourne organizations. She believes this work has prepared her perfectly for the job of motivating individuals and organisations to take action to reduce global warming.
"Climate Positive's position is that individual actions, no matter how small, are politically and socially potent and key to bringing about bigger shifts in policy - especially around reducing active emissions via low-emissions technology. Faced with an opportunity to join Climate Positive in this quest, I jumped at the chance," she said.
Climate Positive receives 'outstanding' ranking on independent carbon watch website
Not-for-profit carbon offset and education group Climate Positive has scored in the 90%-plus top tier of the first comprehensive and independent ranking of Australian carbon offset providers. Released today by the Total Environment Centre (TEC), Choice and the Institute of Sustainable Futures (ISF), the Carbon Offset Watch site gives Climate Positive - the only not-for-profit in the rankings - an 'outstanding' rating.
Climate Positive Chairman, Brendan Condon, welcomed the Carbon Offset Watch site and praised its role in increasing transparency and providing an independent and trusted guide to quality offsets in the Australian voluntary carbon offset sector.
